Our Story
IDEA-U Weslaco Opened
IDEA-U opened its doors on August 7, 2017 in Weslaco, Texas to support IDEA Public Schools Alumni, employees and community members whose full lives, schedules, and family commitments had not allowed them to complete college.
Our First Students
In partnership with Southern New Hampshire University's College for America Program, IDEA-U enrolled its founding cohort consisting of 43 students in college on October 1, 2017.
IDEA-U Brownsville Opened
IDEA-U opened its second college completion center in Brownsville, Texas in September 2018.
First Graduation
In October 2018, IDEA-U Weslaco held its inaugural graduation to celebrate the 16 students who had completed the requirements for an Associates or Bachelor's degree.
IDEA-U San Antonio Opened
IDEA-U opened its third center in San Antonio, Texas in October 2018.
Graduation 2019
In October 2019, IDEA-U celebrated two graduations - one in the Rio Grande Valley and one in San Antonio, Texas. In its second year of operation IDEA-U conferred an additional 67 degrees.
Future Plans
The organization is currently in the midst of planning for the launch of two new centers in Fall 2020.
